International (Matt Wingard) While many people are complaining about the price of fuel, millions of people around the world are wondering how they are going to pay for their next meal. The price of rice has jumped over 50% worldwide leading to political instability and riots in poor countries. Are we going to see world famine like we' ve never seen before, or is there a way to avoid the inevitable?
National: (Al Young) The recent grounding of the American Airlines fleet over safety concerns by the FAA, coupled with the rise in jet fuel prices is causing major problems for passengers and the air carriers. Is the already shaky US airline industry facing more bankruptcies and consolidation?
State: (Richard Donin) As technology continues to drive the state and national economic engine, Oregon must invest in its public school system to insure that students possess the skills required for successful transition into the workplace. Oregon' s recent "D" grade for classroom technology and "F" grade for student and teacher access by Educator' s Week' s Technology assessment puts the State' s students at a real competitive disadvantage. What must the state do to reverse this important student and teacher skill base?
Local: (Mike Riley) The West Coast Fisheries managers recently voted to cancel all commercial salmon fishing off the Washington, Oregon and California coasts, leaving
commercial fisherman wondering how they'll make a living this year, and leaving restaurants wondering what they will serve to the tourists who
expect to order salmon when they visit Oregon. The three states have already signed documents requesting disaster relief, but will it be enough?
