International (Richard Donin) Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez recently nationalized the telecommunications and electricity industries in Venezuela, and now has his sights set on nationalizing the banks and even a foreign-owned steel company. Venezuelans may see a short-term benefit of lower prices for goods and services, but how will the world market react?
National: (Mike Riley) Barak Obama's remarks to a San Francisco audience last week have sparked the Clinton camp to label him an elitist. Obama said perhaps he shouldn’t have used the word "bitter" to describe rural Americans, who he says have turned to guns, religion, and antipathy toward people different from themselves. Will the elitist label give McCain and Clinton enough ammunition to turn the tide?
State: (Matt Wingard) Governor Kulongoski is determined to go out with a flair as the greenest governor in the United States. His economic development focus is on companies providing green solutions, but he' s also just announced a plan to impose "congestion pricing" charges on motorists who commute during rush hour. Is Oregon' s governor leading the way to the future or is he marching down a dead-end road?
Local: (Al Young) The city of Beaverton spent almost a million dollars over a period of two years trying to hide public records relating to the annexation of the land Nike sits on. So, it' s no surprise that Nike recently endorsed Beaverton City Council member Dennis Doyle in the race for Mayor of Beaverton. Will the Nike endorsement and the annexation fiasco give Doyle enough of an advantage to beat incumbent Rob Drake?
