International: (Richard Donin) Steven Spielberg, who had been the artistic advisor for the opening and closing ceremonies for the Beijing Olympics, recently decided to walk away from the whole thing, citing China’s involvement in Darfur. The director said his conscience would not allow him to continue in his role. Is China really to blame for the atrocities in Darfur, or are they just the most public scapegoat at the moment.
National: (Matt Wingard) Democrats have been turning out in much bigger numbers than Republicans during this year’s presidential primaries. How do you think that will play out in the Fall, and will we see Obama and McCain on the ticket or Hillary and McCain?
State: (Al Young) It seems the Oregon legislative emergency sessions in the off years have become the rule more than the exception. There will be a measure on the ballot this Fall to see if Oregonians would legitimize future annual sessions. What has the most recent special session produced and are annual sessions going to be the new norm?
Local: (Mike Riley) Washington County government has been encouraging annexation, as well as the development of new cities, such as Bull Mountain and Bethany, on the assumption that local cities will do a better job of providing urban-like services to those in the unincorporated areas. Is local government just trying to garner more tax dollars, or is annexation really the way to go?
