Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008This program 75 of the To The Point! series.
International (Richard Donin) Competing drug cartels have declared an all-out war on each other, with gun battles raging in Tijuana and other Mexican border towns. Has Mexico become an unsafe destination for tourists, or are these just isolated incidents?
National: (Matt Wingard) Across the United States, independents and Republicans are switching their voter registrations to Democrat. Do they really want to become Democrats? Of course not. They admittedly want to be able to vote in the hotly contested Democratic primary. How will this affect party politics in Oregon and across the United States?
State: (Mike Riley) On March 2, 2008, 15-month old Ava Worthington of Oregon City died of bronchial pneumonia and a blood infection that could have been cured with antibiotics. Her parents were charged with manslaughter and criminal mistreatment because they relied on faith healing to cure her. Is the government overstepping religious freedoms in this case, or were the charges warranted?
Local: (Al Young) Like many other cities across the country, Portland's affordable housing problems grow worse every day. Some say we need the government to build more affordable housing. Some blame our land-use planning system. But what are politicians actually doing about it?
